The journey to Bushmans Kloof provides one of the most beautiful drives in South Africa and delivers the perfect prelude to a guests’ stay. Highlights include the laid-back village of Paternoster - the unlikely home of some of the country’s best restaurants, pristine sandy beaches, and a fascinating nature reserve - as well as Clanwilliam, one of the oldest towns in South Africa.

South African Travel

Visa requirements for South Africa vary depending on your nationality. Please check the latest entry requirements with your local South African embassy or consulate before travelling.

From July 2026, all travellers entering or leaving South Africa are also required to complete a mandatory online Traveller Declaration before travelling. This requirement applies to South African citizens, residents, and international visitors.

The Traveller Declaration is a customs requirement and does not replace any visa requirements that may apply to your trip. Travellers who require a visa must still obtain the appropriate visa before travel.

The declaration must be completed within 24 hours of departure. For travellers journeying to South Africa on a multi-stop itinerary, the declaration must be submitted within 24 hours before departure on the final leg of the journey to South Africa.

From Cape Town

Driving directions

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat is situated in Clanwilliam, Western Cape, South Africa. Plan for a scenic drive from Cape Town, approximately 270km away, which takes between two and a half to three hours via the Pakhuis Pass (40km). Please note that our gates close at 6pm.

Minibus transfers

Opt for a three-hour transfer in a seven-seater minibus. Rates are quoted based on enquiry and are calculated from Cape Town Central to Bushmans Kloof. Surcharges are applicable for alternative pickup/drop off locations. Surcharges will also apply for early/late transfers. 

Air transfers

Air transfers are available from Cape Town to our private airstrip, affectionately known as Bushmans Kloof International. The 1,200-metre gravel runway provides convenient access to the reserve, with a complimentary 20-minute transfer to the lodge upon arrival. The flight takes around 60 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. The airstrip’s coordinates are S 32º 02' 00" / E 19º 02' 32".

Helicopter transfers

Helicopter transfers take approximately 60 minutes (depending on the aircraft) and can be arranged from Cape Town International Airport, the V&A Waterfront, or The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa directly to the lodge (they do not land at the airstrip, but rather on the lawns at the lodge). The fleet of our preferred supplier, NAC, includes a Bell 206, Bell 407, and R44 Robinson. Quotes can be assisted with at the time of reservation.
