Wines with altitude
Situated 1036-metres above sea level, the vines of Cederberg Private Cellar are renowned for producing small-quantities of low-yielding bunches; ideal for vinification into high-quality wine. The farm currently has 74-hectares planted with vineyard, and production is split 40/60 for red/white wines.
The dramatic continental climate – from searing heat in summer, to snow in the winter – is the defining feature of these terroir-specific wines, with cellar master David Nieuwoudt known for sculpting remarkable Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Bukketraube. His bold New World-style Shiraz is the standout of the red wines, while his Méthode Cap Classique sparkling wine, a Blanc des Blancs from Chardonnay, has garnered awards both in South Africa and abroad.
