Okavango Delta, Botswana
The story of Xigera Safari Lodge is one of renewal. Of rebirth and family legacy, and of the pioneering spirit that drives us to seek out Africa’s wild spaces. The same spirit that inspired this remarkable reimagining, perhaps a complete reinvention, of an Okavango Delta safari. This is Xigera (pronounced ‘kee-jera’), named for the Pied Kingfisher that makes its home amid the watery channels of Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve. Every aspect is handcrafted to beguile our guests’ senses and stir their souls – from the evocative interiors to one-of-a-kind encounters. But Xigera is equally a line in the sand. A raising of the bar. A bold statement in the realm of luxury safaris in Botswana, and an Okavango Delta safari experience like no other.
Situated 1036-metres above sea level, the vines of Cederberg Private Cellar are renowned for producing small-quantities of low-yielding bunches; ideal for vinification into high-quality wine. The farm currently has 74-hectares planted with vineyard, and production is split 40/60 for red/white wines.
The dramatic continental climate – from searing heat in summer, to snow in the winter – is the defining feature of these terroir-specific wines, with cellar master David Nieuwoudt known for sculpting remarkable Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Bukketraube. His bold New World-style Shiraz is the standout of the red wines, while his Méthode Cap Classique sparkling wine, a Blanc des Blancs from Chardonnay, has garnered awards both in South Africa and abroad.
The wine tour costs R1250 per person, with a maximum of four passengers. The tour operates with a minimum of two passengers per vehicle, otherwise a flat fee of R2500 is payable.
The tour includes scenic transfers in an air-conditioned vehicle to Cederberg Private Cellars, cellar tour and wine tasting, followed by lunch at Kromrivier farm.
The tour is subject to availability for all guests staying overnight at Bushmans Kloof. The wine tour can be booked during the reservation process, or on arrival at the lodge.
If you’re not able to include a tour during your stay, the wines of the Cederberg Private Cellar are well represented on the award-winning wine list at Bushmans Kloof. Tutored tastings of Cederberg wines, and other leading South African producers, are offered in our cellar at the Homestead on request.
