Cape Town, 10 July 2009: Having been rated against the finest hotels and lodges around the globe, Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat was voted the Best Hotel in the World in the 2009 US Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards. The exclusive 5-star wilderness retreat at the foothills of the Cederberg Mountains, some 270m north of Cape Town (South Africa), also took pole position in the category of Best Hotel in Africa and the Middle East.
Sister property, Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa performed equally well, winning top honours as both the Best City Hotel in the World, as well as the Best Hotel Spa in Africa and the Middle East.
The results of the extensive annual Travel + Leisure magazine readers’ survey were announced in the USA on NBC’S Today Show on Friday (10 July 2009). Winners will be honoured at a Travel + Leisure Winner’s Dinner and Award Ceremony at the prestigious Cooper Square Hotel in New York City on July 21st.
The 14th annual Travel + Leisure winners were selected via a readers’ questionnaire developed by the editors of the leading US travel magazine, in association with Harris Interactive, during the first quarter of this year. Respondents rated destinations according to stringent criteria, which included location, standard and value of food and service, and standard of rooms and facilities. The Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards can be viewed online at www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest and survey results will be featured in the August 2009 issue of Travel + Leisure magazine.
